| Cycle Steps | |
| Follow the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal until it reaches the main town. From there, follow the cycle track until you reach the A4051. Cross 1 roundabout, keeping on the A4051, and pass an underpass. At the second roundabout, take the second exit and go down Woodside road. Finishing point is the Aldi superstore- this makes an ideal pick-up point at the end. What makes this route different is that it is almost entirely flat- it has to be, due to the canal. Afterwards, the path follows a dismantled railway, before running parallel to the A4051. Each of the bridges along the canal is numbered- increasing as the canal runs further upstream towards Brecon. The aqueducts are also an experience- it is strange to see a river below a river. Along the part from Crickhowell to near Abergavenny, the A4077 appears 50 metres below. This will not suit those with road bikes-I would advise those who have wider tyres to attempt it. Typical traffic would consist of a few walkers and maybe other cyclists. If the route is too much for 1 day, there is a camp-site located just before Crickhowell called Park Farm. The route is just over 35 miles long- it may be 1 mile longer as the route mapper does not recognise towpaths. I have mapped out the route in accordance with the Ordnance Survey maps. |
