Cycle Steps
This is a picturesque, road route, through the heart of the Ribble Valley, mainly on quiet B and country roads, that has two decent climbs.
The route starts at the Spread Eagle Public House, heads out of Barrow towards the A671 and on into Clitheroe. It leaves Clitheroe on the B6478 and heads through Waddington to Newton. The first of the climbs is on this stretch of road taking you to the top of Waddington Fell. At Newton you turn left, off the B6478, and follow country roads to Dunsop Bridge. This is said to be the geographic centre of the UK, and there is a very nice brew stop here.
After Dunsop Bridge, turn left at the T junction and follow the country roads towards Whitewell. In Whitewell turn sharp left into Hall Hill to start the second climb, which takes you out of Whitewell to Cow Ark. In Cow Ark turn left and follow the country roads through Bashall Eaves and past Bashall Town to the B6243 T junction. Turn left onto the B6243 and head over the river and back into Clitheroe. You then follow the A671 out of Clitheroe and turn off onto Whalley Road back to the pub.
