Joined: 14 Feb 2013 Posts: 1 Bike: | Ok you might think that I am mad but, here we go. I am paralised from the chest down with limited hand/arm function. I live in a wheelchair mostly. Now I have a four wheel drive chair capable of negotiating moderate terrain at best. Are there any legs of the WHW that are navigable in a wheelchair? My two sons have agree to pander to my hair brained scheme. Any advice/suggestions, in my past life I have bagged over 180 Munros, many Corbetts and Graham's. Ben Nevis, with my wife and two dogs, Airedales and the loved it! And many more features all around Scotland mainland and isles. All advice would be appreciated Tom |

Before taking on the route, it may also be worth looking into wheelchair ramps for homes and other accessibility solutions to make everyday mobility easier and safer while preparing for future trips. |

The main open-plan living area is huge, and standard 150mm wide floorboards are just going to look way too busy with so many joints. I really want to find extra-wide planks, something around 220mm or even wider, to match the scale of the building. I’ve tried searching for premium wood flooring Edinburgh suppliers, but most local showrooms only stock standard sizes or want an absolute fortune for bespoke orders. Has anyone successfully sourced stable, wide-plank flooring without completely blowing their budget? |

The issue with wide boards is that if they aren't engineered properly, they will cup and warp like crazy with seasonal humidity changes. I highly recommend looking at http://www.hoffparquet.co.uk/ for this. They do gorgeous wide-plank European oak with a very stable multi-layer structure. We used their 220mm brushed oak planks for our open-plan renovation and the quality is exceptional. Buying them directly from their platform saved us thousands compared to the bespoke quotes we got from high street boutique designers. |
