Duration of cycle ride and calories - how are figures arrived at?

No way did that ride take me as long as 3 and half hours! And this figure comes up for calories burnt - based on what assumptions??

It's hard for this to be specific for everyone, as everyone is at different stages of fitness. So the site assumes an average pace of 10mph (while this may seem ridiculously slow to one, may also seem very hard work for another).

Calories burnt is also based on a simple calculation that does not take into account your weight. If however you login and supply your weight, the calculation is a bit more accurate taking into account weight and distance.

Of course, once again, it does not take into account the time you complete the journey as this will change for every cyclist or the average gradient of the cycle.
