I cycled the canal route you requested info on, had to check canal map for place names etc, here we go - skipton to just after silsden is single earth track and tricky in bad weather but ok in dry, rest route to leeds ok n nice ride, plenty refreshment stops and by n large real scenic, ok from skipton your on right side of canal until 1 ml after bingley 5 locks where you cross ( Dowley gap riselocks 2 ) onward passing shiply, esholt, apperley bridge, rodley and run direction of kirkstall into leeds ( 28 approx n 2.30 mins for me ) leeds was tricky coming off canal, i got back on across granary wharf bridge, here the canal changes to river aire short stretch and the into aire n calder canal where i crossed back over knopstrock flood lock, i got as far as woodlesford and came off right on a462 oulton taking aberford rd ( left ) joining a639 main rd into wakefield passing pinderfields hospital approx 4 mls , sticking with the canal at woodlesford takes you miles out of way of wakefield rounding castleford ( out of way ) then looping back to wakefield. the canal path also has a mind of its own as well having to come off in parts ! I really hope this helps some. - Col |
