The Watford Orbit:

A 32 mile orbit of Watford, taking in Bushey, South Oxhey, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Sarratt, Chipperfield, Kings Langley, Bedmond, Chiswell Green, Park Street, Radlett and Aldenham.

There are several steepish hills, though all are fairly short. The final third is quite easy by comparison to the first two - thirds of the route. This route takes me 2 hours. I'm a relative beginner, but not unfit. It makes my legs ache, I don't find it to be an easy route, but always satisfying.

Be careful of potholes on the steep downhill and immediate uphill between Chipperfield and Kings Langley, there is at least one really bad one at a point where you have just got a good bit of speed up! I damaged my bike on it the first time I rode this route. The road surfaces throughout the route are mainly ok, with some inevitable exceptions. Also, be careful on the road from Bedmond to Chiswell Green, it is narrow.

I've been working on this route for several weeks, and am now happy with it. It was my intention to find a route with no main roads; this has proved impossible so far, but this one comes as close as I've ever managed in a longish circular. The route has the advantage that, if you live in Watford at any rate, can cut it short if you need to because wherever you are there is always a quick way home!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
The only bike shop I can think of anywhere near this route (other than in Watford T.C.) is St Albans. This is just a mile or two detour from Chiswell Green. And a bloody big hill. But we
love hills don't we :)
