The route takes in the old rail line from Wombwell to Worsborough, which is a gentle incline for approx 6 miles to Silkstone Common. Descends into Oxpsring before a short a short climb to join the old Woodhead Rail line heading south towards Thurgoland Tunnels and Wortley. Coming off the line at Wortley, there is a steady climb into Wortley Village before heading past Wortley Golf Club and a good climb up Pilley Hill. The route takes you around Harley and Elsecar on a steady descent, passing the Cortonwood retail park, before rejoining the Trail on what was the Wath to Worsbrough/Stairfoot railway, heading back to Carlton. |
