This is the third day of a three day ride from Thorverton, near Exeter, to Marlborough in Wiltshire. This third day is the easiest, with more than half of the ride being along the tow path of the Kennet and Avon canal. It includes the famous Caen Hill with its 16 locks to rise up the hill to Devizes. The last few miles, after leaving the canal path, are out in the open Wiltshire countryside, in an area renowned for crop circles. Once you are over the last hill (almost the only hill) on the ride you have a wonderful couple of miles down hill almost all the way into Marlborough.
To get back to Thorverton (or Exeter), you can cycle a further 10 miles to Pewsey from where it is a one and half hour train ride to Exeter. |
