The county of Shropshire is situated in the West Midlands of England with its west bordering Wales.The county was ajoined to the Kingdom of Mercia in the 8th Century by King Offa. Many fortresses and a staggering 8 castles can be found in Shropshire which were built to defend from the Welsh and Danish. In 1781 Shropshire built the Iron Bridge which was the world's first arch bridge made from cast iron and it can be found by the village of Ironbridge crossing over the River Severn.
