You can start this route at any point along the Rochdale Canal. The route along the Canal is mostly flat with a few lock with steep banks to to climb more so towards Rochdale.

I left the Canal at Stakehill industrial estate and headed towards middlton down Rochdale Rd which is mostly downhill and a short rest break from having climbed the locks.

Head through Middleton and follow Manchester New Rd towards Heaton Park and carry on until the left down Blackley New Road through Blackley Village and onto Rochdale Rd and follow it up towards Victoria Ave.

Nice little route around Heaton Park - not too far from me so had a little recce last night lol.

I did Mytholmroyd to Rochdale last weekend on the canal but didn't realise it went right into Manchester.

Wonder how far into Manchester can you go - it looks like the canal goes underground at Gt Ancoats Street but . . . it also looks like it goes all the way to Goole in the form of Aire & Calder Navigation - how good a day out would that be ? lol
