Cycle Steps
This is a moderately easy going circular route through beautiful countryside and historic villages, but there are 2 steep sections where care should be taken - the 1st is located on the first section of bridleway approaching Bendalls Farm and the 2nd, when turning left just after joining the surfaced road after leaving the 3rd section of bridleway. The route uses country roads and incorporates 4 sections of bridleway which may be heavier going following bad weather. Bridleways are located just south of Milton; through the Foremark Reservoir site; from the A514 and just before the left turn towards Bretby. As the route uses country roads it is suggested that it may not be suitable for inexperienced or young riders (certainly not unsupervised). Being 12 miles in length without a bike shop nearby or access to public telephones, it is suggested that riders ensure they have basic puncture repair/tool kit, water, a mobile phone, map, lights and minor first aid items with them.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Historic Repton School and St Wystans Church are well worth a look and there are several good pubs and restaurants in the Repton to round off your ride.
At Foremark Reservoir (1/3rd of the way around) there is a small visitor centre with toilets and a refreshment facility.
At Bretby Nurseries (2/3rds of the way round) there are toilet facilities and a good tea room serving anything from tea and coffee to full meals.
Newton Solney is a small village with good pubs serving local beers and meals using local produce.
There is overnight accommodation available in Newton Solney, Ticknall and Repton.
