Cycle Steps
An opportunity to picnic by the River Severn at Rodley Sands by going Newent - Huntley - Northwood Green- Westbury-on-Severn - Rodley and back

This is a relatively easy and safe ride on quiet roads and lanes with a safe crossing over the A40 at Huntley. There is a slightly more demanding route through Cliffords Mene, Glasshouse, May Hill and Blaisdon. You could combine the two for a longer and more varied ride with pub stops.

Starting from the centre of Newent head past the Tudor Fish and Chip shop out along the B4216 (Culver Street, then Newent Lane) for 6km. At Huntley, turn left at Bywords Road and follow through to North Road. Use the lights to cross the A40 into Upper Ley. Follow this to Frewins Lane which goes through to Northwood Green. Or use Ley Road and Frowens Lane for better views. At Northwood Green turn left into Grange Court Road and and then right into Adsett Lane to the A48 at Westbury-on-Severn. CARE! The A48 can be busy with fast moving traffic in both directions. Cross straight over into Rodley Road and proceed to Rodley Sands.

If you take the alternative route around May Hill, there is short section on the A40 and you also have to cross the A4136, both of which require care and vigilance.

Visibility at junctions is mostly excellent but you should wear brightly coloured clothing and use your lights to be seen in dim conditions. Everyone should wear helmets!

Total return distance: approx. 26.54 miles (42.72 km)
