Nice ride, but you've got the region/county wrong, it's North Merseyside, nowhere near Cheshire.

I live locally and would suggest at Netherton you take the path through Rimrose Valley park to the Marina and sea wall at Waterloo, to Hightown. Great views and the Iron Men as well.

Bit hairy in the Summer, louts wise, but safe once you get past the sports centre.

I think it's 5 miles from the Marina to the Hightown pub.

I prefer to start by copy lane police station just by the canal. From there its 90% traffic free I then continue into Southport along the Coastal Rd. On the way back you head into the sand dunes, this bit can be quite challenging but its worth it when you get to the beach and sand dunes.
