Middlesex is situated to the north west of the City of London. Middlesex was a county until 1965 when Greater London was formed, however it is still widely used, although an optional component, for postal purposes. The county is 1 of 39 historic counties in England and at one time contained the City of London. Middlesex as a county was abolished after World War 2 when the decline of the areas population was worst hit.
