This is a road route, on A and B roads, that uses as many B roads as possible. There are a few uphill drags, but only one steep climb at Vigo Hill, between Trottscliffe and the A227.
The route goes from Hastings to Gravesend ferry, through East Sussex and Kent, passing through Hawkhurst, Goudhurst and many small villages on the way. The journey is about fifty miles and takes about 6 hours. This was stage one of my trip to the Pennines, but if you are doing this in one day, then a train back is the answer. |
