This is a road route, that apart from the start and finish is mainly on B and country roads, with very few flat sections, and some very steep bits, where I had to get off and push.
Start anywhere near The Stray and head west via the A6040, the B6162 Otley Road, and country roads to Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs. Then head north through Blubberhouse and West End past Thruscross Reservoir, before a long gentle climb to Greenhow Hill. You then have a descent, on the B6265 into Pateley Bridge, that is extremely steep and windey. Caution is advised, as my brakes started to burn and Pateley Bridge appears very suddenly. However, there are shops and toilets here that gives everything a chance to cool down. Get back to harrogate via Ripley and Knaresborough on the B6165. |
