Cycle Steps
This is a long route using a variety of town roads and quieter back roads, with several gradual slopes/small hills. It is nice and varied and passes by several pubs and the Hanningfield Reseviour visitor centre. It took me just under 2 hours at a leisurely pace.

From Chelmer Village (A138) take the 2nd exit at the army and navy roundabout. Head through Great Baddow and follow signs to W.Hanningfield, Cross the A12 on the bridge and continue on this road. At T junction turn left and follow road pass a pub (the compass) follow signs to W.Hanningfield and resevior. The road heads towards South Hanningfield turn right at T junction there is another Pub.

At Brook Hill T junction turn right following signs to visitor centre. Continue on this road until meeting the B1007 Stock Road, turn right and at the pub on the right turn right again. (this section can be shortend by taking the previous right turn rather than following signs to Chelmsford and it will take you back to the Compass pub in W.Hanningfield). Take 2nd left exit following signs back towards Great Baddow and on to Chelmsford the way you came!!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Hanningfield Resevior and Visitor Centre. Several Pubs (not tried but I am sure would make great lunch stops).

I have done this route a few times now and have got much quicker at it. Down to 1 hour 20 mins.

I recently found a bit of a short cut which took off about half a mile and avoided the busy Stock Road section. Its a right turn onto Lower Stock Road while going up the hill towards Stock Road. This is a much nicer road to cycle on and comes out by the pub on Holliday Hill, which you pass on the outward part of the route before you turn onto the Resevoir Road.
