With a population of around 64000 County Cavan is located on the south of the Northern Ireland and ROI border below County Fermanagh. The county forms part of what used to be the Kingdom of Breifne (Hilly in Irish) which was at its most active in the 12th Century under the ruling of Tiernan O'Rourke who at that time was King of Breifne. A place of historical importance is Magh Slécht which is a plain of land with over 80 ancient monuments over 3 square miles, some of which date back further than 4000 BC.
