Cycle Steps
Extensive cycle with a number of off-road sections. Starts with the National Cycle Network Route 2 from the Palace Pier (Brighton) along the Undercliff Path to Saltdean. It then joins the Telscombe Tye track into the village of Telscombe and continues on to the crossings of the River Ouse, railway and A26 at Southease. The hardest climb of the route soon follows with the road crossing up onto the top of the downs. At Firle Beacon, a sharp descent on a quiet paved road occurs with an optional refreshment stop in the Village of Firle. The route then joins the Old Coach Road (track) before turning off to head to Middle Farm for further refreshments. Head south back down to the Old Coach Road and follow this until the required turning into the village of Alciston for more refreshments. From here, fields are crossed to reach Selmeston. A number of quiet country lanes follow across the Weald to Ripe and then in the direction of Laughton. An off-road route continues from Mark Cross, just west of Ripe, to the remains of Laughton Place. This section may prove difficult if the ground is wet. The path then branches off across fields to the B2124 joining this opposite Broyle Place. The B-road is followed in a westerly direction until the left turn down Moor Lane is reached. This is then subsequently followed throughout until it joins New Road near Glyndebourne. A sharp hill is followed by descent into the village of Glynde where refreshments and a rail journey back to Brighton are optional.

This route is NOT correct. The National Cycle Route 2 runs on top of the cliffs from Brighton Marina to Rottingdean. The Undercliff Path is clearly marked "Pedestrian access only" with the NO CYCLING sign from the Highway Code.

The undercliff path is now cycle-friendly and very enjoyable.
