Cycle Steps
A popular CTC and local club ride which is a combination of off and on road. It is very busy in places so not suitable for children.
Turn L out of the station and cycle N over the railway bridge and take first L. Then take next R into Lye Lane and over M25 to the end.
Cross the busy A405 and SA into Noke Lane. At the T-J turn left and climb Noke Lane, ignore the L turn.
Turn R into Potterscrouch Lane at staggered X Road and pass Holly Bush PH on L, ignore R turn. Continue where lane becomes Bedmond Lane.
Turn R onto A4147, SA at R/bout and downhill to turn L to Gate into the Roman Theatre and Verulamium, the old Roman Town. (This route via Gorhambury is closed on Saturdays during shooting season).
Continue this path, passing Gorhambury Manor on the L and further on the remains of Old Gorhambury (home to Francis Bacon) on the R.
Continue downhill and then R onto rough track, through gate and climb hill to the junction with A4147.
Turn R, cycle on the path where available, until R turn into Westwick Row. Continue to X Road and turn R, SA at R/bout . SA at next R/bout and then R at next R/Bout into Hogg End Lane.
Take the L at Sign ‘Old Jeromes' to T-J.
Turn R into Punch Bowl Lane and continue until A5183. Turn L (use path on other side of road).
Turn R into Redbournbury Lane, pass across the ford and take the right pathway, gentle uphill cycle along Beesonend Lane to the end, junction with A1081. (Continue L along the A1081 to get to the town of Harpenden if you wish)
Turn L and soon R into Cross Lane (Golf Course). Note: If you would like refreshment take next L, R into Limbrick Road and continue following road L to end and R into Cravells Road to The Engineer PH (opposite Eastmoor Park).
Turn R to T-J, turn R into Ayres End Road. Turn L onto A1081 and use pathway opposite until gated area on R. Turn here and go through Childwick Bury. Straight down until A5183
Turn L and cycle on pathway opposite until downward sloping drive on your right. Turn down drive and through gate, back into Gorhambury. Take the next L to Gate. Retrace steps to Bricket Wood Station.
