1. After a long ascent out of Alston and a fast descent into Whitfield the road goes up once more around 2 hairpin bends then levels off to Carts Bog. Turn right here and go up the drag for a while and then another fast descent all the way to Hexham.
From here you take the quiet back roads of Route 72 all the way to Newcastle.
The track has been re-surfaced between Wylam and Newburn and is now a hard compacted gravel surface so it's even good for a road bike. |
