Kelvin cycleway from Milngavie

Browsing the Fit for Life cycle route map I notice that it shows a route following the Allander then the Kelvin into the City centre. I did this years ago and the first section certainly wasn't a recognised route and Milngavie to Maryhill was a real struggle at times. Does anyone know if this route has been formalised? My wife has just taken up cycling, just bought a Kona Lisa which she loves. Looking for straightforward routes around Glasgow as a gradual introduction to off-roading, anxious to avoid any bad experiences just now, any other suggestions? We did Clyde Cycleway to Clydebank, then canal to Maryhill and back on Kelvin Cycleway today which she enjoyed. I know, tame, but its early days!
