Is there anyone on the forum who has cycled from glasgow to dumfries, is there a route down, possibly on the old a74 and if there is how long roughly it would take. Any feedback will be great thanks.

Hello Mack, I've planned to do hamilton to dumfries when the weather picks up. I've done hamilton to carlisle on the a74 a few times, so i'm familiar with the route. the route I've planned leaves from larkhall along the b7078, through lesmahagow, which turns into the old a74. Follow this road for about 35 miles, til you get to Beatock. After Beatock, you could stay on the A701 straight into dumfries. This road looks busy though, so I'm turning off the A701 onto the B7020. Go down this road for 11miles til you get to lochmaben, then onto the a709 into dumfries. Check it out on google maps. I think it'd be more worthwhile you jumping on the train and beginning the route at larkhall, cycling to there from glasgow would be along busy main roads, not worth the hassle in my opinion. I reckon it would take you about 3-3.5 hrs without rests if you did that.

Thanks darcy, yeah i think the a75 would be busy so going along the b7020 and the a709 might be better. If i am doing the cycle it will be from partick thistle, ground in maryhill to queen of the souths ground in dumfries anf will be for charity so
Will wan to cycle all the way. Given myself 2 months training for it and to work out best route reckon if i leave between 6-7 in morning i can get there before 3 o,clock in the afternoon.
