During the Autumn, I attempted the Inverness - Glasgow route. All was going well until the rear pannier mounting bolts sheared just outside Aviemore, ended up getting a train home. I want to attempt this route again this coming Summer, this time however would be looking at using an 'Extrawheel' trailer. Has anybody had the opportunity of using this piece of equipment, would it be worthwhile buying, or is there a better alternative?

My Profile
never used one myself but bumped in to a couple doing LE-JOG a few years ago who had set out with trailers
"where are they now " i asked
"left them at Plymouth as we found them hard work"
have you thought about using front panniers as well thus shareing the weight over the bike.
i also carry a selection of nuts & bolts on a tour got me out of trouble on a number of times quite a few rack problems as well
as another point we also doing Glasgow to Inverness then down to Aberdeen this year as well may see you on the road .

Thanks for the info. Have been thinking of front panniers also. If I do decide on rear panniers rack again, it will have to mount through rear axle, as the mounting points on the frame are now knackered, and this time will definitely be buying a 'Tubus' rack, they seem to be the most solidly built.
Hope your ride goes well, I will keep an eye out. Remember to pack some Avon Skin So Soft!!
