I would then map out a route, either here (on cycle-route), google maps or bikeroutetoaster (the latter one does elevations too), and find a route that has places to stay along the way that fit into the miles per day equation. Of course if you have someone following in a support vehicle that is less of a consideration but in my opinion a cheat. :-) There are many web sites that let you search for accomodation with a certain mileradius of a point. what to take depends on expected weather and time of the year too. tool kits, Spares inner tubes, puncture repair kit and water bottles and snacks essential. If you are using hotels or b+b then carrying your food is less of a consideration especially if you are passing shops often. Hope this helps you get started. Buster fyi i havent done anything like this just dreamt of it. I have done a 2 day trip offroad along the south downs way. |

Or plan your own route Portsmouth to Liverpool is a distance of about 280 miles this would take 4 days really hard riding going the most direct route. The most i have done in one day is 170 that was really hard and i suffered for it for days afterwards i also consider myself to be distance rider, but once you get over 100 mile in a day unless you are really fit and can stay in the saddle for 7/8 hours then you need to plan on a week a least for a journey of this type |
