I'm fairly new to cycling, bought my first proper road bike about 6mths ago and use it to ride to work everyday which is a 30mile round trip. I really enjoy it, even in the rain or cold but I hate the wind! I enjoy it that much that my mate at work has set 4 of us a challenge of riding a 1200+ mile challenge around the UK in aid of Help for Heroes! We are a group of paramedics working in East London as part of London Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team. Each ambulance trust has one of these teams and we are going to cycle to every one of them. We start on May 21st and finish June 5th. We have set up a charity page http://www.bmycharity.com/HARTtoHART and a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/LAS-HART-to-HART-for-Help-for-Heroes/126585320779963. So if you want to have a look at what we are up to, feel free. Training has already begun but if anyone has any hints or tips for this endurance ride then that would be great. Also, I know it sounds like I'm begging, but it would be really great if we could get some support from some cycle firms. If anyone knows of anyone who would be willing to offer their support in any shape or form it would very helpful. We have entered ourselves into the Hell of the Ashdown which I've heard they don't call it hell for nothing! Thanks for reading Happy safe riding Alex |

Go as light as possible(easier if you have support), wear half-decent cycle specific kit(esp. shorts) & use assos chamois creme(pricey but worth every last penny on long, multi-day, rides. You'll get used to eating/drinking routines in training, or should do. I've found high5 4:1 works for me, esp. in aiding recovery over carb only drinks, but that's just my own personal experience. Chocolate milk as soon as you can after the day's ride too......The advice re. kit/nutrition/training is endless, and you'll find a mine of useful info, both on here & other forums/blogs/sites. Find what works for you, well before your big ride, and use it......Enjoy :) |
