Hi all,

just to let you know, you can now view some of the routes on cycle-route using google earth. Google Earth can be downloaded for free, and makes it real easy to see exactly where you are going.

If you would like to upload your own google earth routes, just add the route using http://www.cycle-route.com/Cycle-Route-Add.html and email the route file to routes@cycle-route.com.

Have fun

Alan

Hi,

I take it you have to have google earth plus to actually create the routes? Anyone know how much it is?

Hi Spokeslady,

Welcome to cycle-route.com.

Have you used Google Earth Plus yourself? It is quite good, but for me the only main difference is the fact you can plot routes as all the underlying data is the same.

I think sometimes people think the map imagery gets better but google are quite certain that it's the same.

Where abouts do you like to cycle?

Thanks

Alan

Yes, I use GE plus, I thought it was well worth the £11 as I cycle regularly and occasionally lead rides for a group of up to 20. I can measure the route and check it much better than using a map. You are correct that the underlying data and the map imagery remains the same as the regular version.
I cycle during the weekends mainly, probably 30 miles average doing a circular loop around Watford. Mostly to the north of watford where the countryside is better. We have the chilterns to the west which is stunning. Nothing like the hilly rides you probably have in Scotland! But nice all the same. I don't do to much off road: I have a Specialized with disc brakes, which I love when I am cycling through bridleways etc. But for a speedier ride I have a tourer from Edinburgh Bike Co-op for the roads. I don't really do car assisted as I have been very disappointed with car racks, we really haven't managed to do cycling like our European friends, the Germans and the Dutch. I find the majority of Brits are so snobbish about their cars and view cyclists as poor relations. Also the cost of anything bike-related is very expensive compared to our foreign counterparts. I have started to buy abroad, especially when we drive over to France for our booze. My latest purchase was a fabulous trailer which takes two children and cost me the equivalent of £40. The same trailer here would have cost an extra £100.
