Hello, This is my first post here...

I was wondering if anybody knows of any routes roughly in the midlands area that are similar to Rutland water route. ie, not to technical and rough so rideable by anyone really, and about 15 miles long although +/- 5 or so miles would be ok.

Im starting riding with my girlfriend around places but she hates riding on roads (especially main roads) as her cousin was knocked off his bike years ago and still cant walk properly. The amount of roads at rutland water was ok but much more than this becomes a problem.

All the routes i have found either have a lot of road riding, or some very technical bits, neither of which she could do.

Any advice on places to go? Ive seen sherbrook valley trail at cannock chase and am looking into it.

Preferably if any maps that are as detailed as possible, then i would be very grateful.

Thank you all
Andy

Hi Andy, have you looked into canal path cycle routes? I found a good website, look at West Midlands cycling, they look to have loads of good stuff.

Hi Andy,

The Brampton Valley Way is 15 mile car free route from Market Harborough to Northampton (old railway line) there are a couple of dark tunnels near mkt harboro so suggest for a 15 mile round trip start further down the way @Maidwell. Another good route (very little on road) is Grafham Water 9.5 miles or do it twice for a bit more satisfaction.

Hi , Andy.

You can create a free acccount at Garmin Connect .
https://connect.garmin.com/signin?cid=3759028
You can then search routes by putting in location and also filter to mountain biking / distance etc.

If you like someones route you can download it and use it in google earth if you prefer.
If you find a route that you like you can also click on the members I.D and look at all their routes and you may find another one.

You need to be a member to search .

Hope this helps

Thank you all for your help, I will check out what you all said.

Already done Grafham water since my first post, we thought we were about halfway round when we ended up back at the car park at the start so it was definetly alot shorter than we thought. Afterwards we went to Pitsford Water as its on the way home and uses the same £3 pay and display ticket from Grafham water on the same day. This route was pretty good to be honest, although we took it pretty easy this time.

Hi some routes we have done are Gratham water approx 8 miles very enjoyable not too many hills mostly track around water, small distance through village.

Pitsford reservoir approx 7 miles around water very pleasent.

Brampton valley way approx 20 miles ( I think ) very flat old railway track, you dont have to do all can access at different points. couple of tunnels which are very dark really need lights on bikes good fun.
