I'm looking for flat routes as well because I haven't ridden for over 10 years, I have zero stamina but am trying to get fit so my gf got me a single speed bike (if that's of any relevance). Thank you kindly in advance and bear with me while I get used to the site &c Mick |

Look at National cycle route 1 (Look on Sustrans web site) that starts in London at the Thames and heads North of the M25 into the excellent Lea Valley Park where you have multiple routes available. The vast majority of route 1 is improved towpaths that are wide and level. There is no on road travel North of Mile end stadium and virtually no hills for the whole route and you only have to cross a couple of very minor roads over a distance of about 20 miles. While in London a significant part of the official cycle route is in Victoria park which has enough flat wide areas for cycling that one regularly see's parents teaching their young children to ride on two wheels there. That would perhaps be a good place to start your adventures and then push northwards to build your confidence. I know London has these new Cycling 'superhighways' that are being introduced but they do tend to share the roadspace with cars in many areas so I would keep away from them until you have more experience. |
