My previous companion has knackered knees! I've cycled L'don-B'm'ham, L'don-Bath plus various shorter ones in the past, so I'm pretty fit (in the old-fashioned sense of the word) and used to canal cycling. Was thinking of 3/4 days with B&B's en route. Equally, if anyone has done this and wishes to pass on their experiences and/or hostelry recommendations I'd be grateful. Martin |

I am 54, not in the best condition and 14 stone but have done this a couple of times, in 3 days stopping at travel lodge Chorley and travel lodge Skipton, splits it into 3 good days, in 2 days stopping in Accrington for 2 hard days. i have 4 days off every other weekend and would do it again, would advise against sundays as it gets rather slow going with all other users out, mon tue and wed are best days. and dont go if it has been raining for a couple or 3 days as towpath drains very slowly have a look at this site was very helpful http://www.towpathtreks.co.uk/LLC/index.html and this for inspiration http://teamaldi.blogspot.com/2007/07/team-aldi.html Graham |

I've fancied doing this for years, I only live a couple of miles from the canal in Ormskirk, Lncashire and my son lives in Otley, only a few miles from the end in Leeds. I'm a bit of an oldie social cyclist myself, although I did cycle 500 miles across the mountainous North Vietnam in 2006 for charity (nearly killed me). If you managed it - how did you get on and would you consider doing it again sometime? Pauline Pilkington. |
