Hi
I have a Specialized Tri Cross Sport, am relatively fit and was thinking of cycling from Camberwell to Hastings, it's about sixty-odd miles.. It'll be my first long-distance ride and i was just wondering how long it might take me..?
I'll be cycling at a normal pace (as opposed to a race speeds!) Obviously i'm not looking for an exact time, ball-park will do and any tips would be helpful, will i need gloves? Any way of stopping my bum aching (i have shorts with padding), I already have SPD's.
Many thanks

Hi Tartuffe,

Best way I have found to stop your bum aching, is just to go out cycling more. It always seems to hurt when you haven't been on the bike in a while. But generally, if you can get over the initial pain at the start of the day, it usually wears off (or you don't notice it anymore) after a few miles.

With regards to time, just take what you think will be your average, lets say 15mph? with a break in the middle, should take you about 4 and a half hours.

I wouldn't imagine you need gloves, although I do prefer to cycle with them.

Hope that helps a little.

Happy

Hi
Just cycled the London to Hastings BHF bike ride 71 miles from Crystal Palace, the route was re-routed at the last minute which added the extra 10 miles on. 4hrs 39 minutes of cycling time at an avarage speed of 14.8 mph. If you take the same route it was quite hilly, so the pace will drop.

This route may help with a bit of a tweak at the end!
