Raleigh Max Dj20 Kids Bike

"Just bought this bike in green (2009 model i was told) from a different company. I have several comments about the bike. 1. Lightweight it is not. I thought (wrongly) that it may have a similar weight to the raleigh zero G (11.3 kg). NO! 2. Powerful mechanical front disc brake. Even i cannot put enough force through the levers to get it to stop. unless the rear brake is used this bike will not stop. I think that this is particularly dangerous for a 6-7 year old. Otherwise - it's a good looking bike. but if I had known about its weight and the useless front brake I would not have bought it. i asked in a local bike shop about how to improve the braking. only 2 ways - buy hyrdrolic brake unit (they offered me a 2nd hand one for 60 pounds!), or switch to v-brake (but the forks wont hang v-brakes on them). So - either i but expensive hydro brake unit - or don't allow my son to ride downhill. Not what i had in mind when I spent my hard earned cash on the bike. If i could go back - I would buy a another make of bike like giant or cube for him. At least he would be able to ride uphill (low weight and better gearing) and a least stop before getting to a road junction. Not a happy biker. "
